  • Note:  4th grade is the first time that students at HVCS take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills
  • Percentile scores range from 0 to 99. The 50th percentile is average.
  • The Composite score is the average of the other scores. This year all the grade level composite scores are in the 92nd percentile or higher and in specific subject sections, students scored in the 90th percentile or higher. There were increases for all of specific subject scores!
  • In particular we are interested in the scores of the 8th grade class.  All of the subject area scores are 91st percentile or higher, including 3 of them at the 99th percentile, an indicator of preparedness for high school academics.

Tracking individual classes

We tracked the composite scores of four different classes over the past three years. Testing analysts caution against drawing too many conclusions from:

1-small sample sizes (like ours)

2-composition of groups changing from one year to the next (in our case, adds and drops  to particular grades)

Nonetheless, we felt it helpful to look at the progress of students by class.
